A European Place That Builds Bridges

Kreisau/Krzyżowa is a small village in Lower Silesia (Poland), located about 60 kilometers southwest of Wrocław. At the heart of the village is the Kreisau estate, acquired in 1867 by Field Marshal Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke. The large estate remained in the family’s possession until 1945 and has been home to the Foundation for European Understanding since 1990.

Kreisau/Krzyżowa is a small village with a significant historical legacy. The members of the Kreisau Circle met here in 1942 and 1943 to envision a post-Nazi Germany. In 1989, the German-Polish Reconciliation Mass was celebrated here. Today, Kreisau/Krzyżowa is one of Europe’s largest international youth meeting centers, a vibrant place that continues to build bridges.

Krzyżowa Ukraine Support

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Kreisau/Krzyżowa opened its doors to those who had to flee the Russia´s war of aggression against Ukraine. Since then, Kreisau/Krzyżowa has become a safe haven, offering not only shelter and care but also comprehensive support for guests from Ukraine in various areas of need.
