Help us build a peaceful Europe
Understanding and dialogue are key to building a peaceful Europe. As a foundation, we support Kreisau/Krzyżowa, one of the largest international youth meeting centres in Europe. Our goal is to inspire people to actively promote democracy and peace.
We are inspired by the history of Kreisau/Krzyżowa, which tells the story of resistance against National Socialism and of German-Polish reconciliation. Through our work, we carry forward the legacy of one of the most remarkable women of the 20th century, Freya von Moltke.
Experience a Place of Encounter
Every year, more than 15,000 young people from over 30 countries come together in Kreisau/Krzyżowa to explore and discuss the most pressing challenges of our time.
These international encounters build bridges between nations, religions, and generations, creating a foundation for shaping a shared future.

Over
15,000
young people talk,
play, and work
together here each year

“I hope that as many people as possible will experience in Kreisau/Krzyżowa what it means to think together—self-determined and free, despite different backgrounds and motivations—about the past and the future, and to strive for the right path forward, in pursuit of peace and freedom in a united Europe.”
Excerpt from the welcoming letter of the patron,
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier

What We Do
Together with our founders, donors, and partner organizations, we aim to strengthen Kreisau as a vibrant European place of encounter, to promote dialogue and democracy, and to enable active engagement with history.
Our Key Support Organisations

Freya von Moltke – The Foundation’s Namesake
Freya von Moltke – the namesake of our Foundation – was, together with her husband Helmuth James von Moltke, an active member of the Kreisau Circle, a German resistance group opposing the Nazi regime. After her husband’s execution, she became one of the last surviving witnesses to the resistance, keeping alive the memory of those who stood up against National Socialism. In later years, she worked tirelessly to promote German-Polish reconciliation and to establish an international youth meeting center on the former family estate in what is now Krzyżowa, Poland.
Freya von Moltke is one of the most remarkable women of the past century. Her life tells a story of European reconciliation—of courage, of reaching out to one another, and of the hope of building a shared future.
