A Biographical Graphic Novel about Helmuth James and Freya von Moltke

The graphic novel “Mein Lieber, denk mal wie schön” (working title) aims to portray the extraordinary life of Helmuth James and Freya von Moltke, presenting a biographical account of their resistance against the National Socialist regime. Through this project, we hope to reach a broad audience and generate public interest in the history of the Kreisau Circle.

The story is being developed and illustrated by Niels Schröder, who has previously worked on several graphic novels, including Resistance. Tony Sender, Julius Leber, Theodor Haubach – Fighting for Freedom and Against Dictatorship The graphic novel will be published by C.H. Beck. Its release is scheduled for spring 2027.

The project is being carried out by the Freya von Moltke Foundation in cooperation with the Forum Helmuth James von Moltke. The graphic novel is currently in production. At the same time, funding is being secured to make the book accessible to a wide audience of young people and to produce both a German and an English edition — especially for use at the international youth meeting center in Kreisau.
