Krzyżowa´s Ukraine Support

In March 2022, Kreisau/Krzyżowa became a safe haven for people who had to leave Ukraine due to the Russian war of aggression. A total of 177 people, half of them children and young people, found a temporary home in Kreisau/Krzyżowa. Since January 2025, the reception center for refugees has been closed, but the Kreisau Ukraine Support continues: Kreisau is committed to supporting young people from Ukraine and strengthening Ukrainian civil society.

In front of the castle on the estate, the Ukrainian flag flies as a symbol of solidarity.

More Than Humanitarian Aid

In the initial months of the war, the focus was on providing immediate humanitarian aid: housing, food, supplies, and medical care. Over time, support has expanded to include educational programmes, psychological counselling, and assistance with career orientation. The Kreisau Foundation regularly organized sports events, excursions, workshops, and concerts for guests from Ukraine. The young people were involved in international exchange projects, and there was a separate group for Ukrainian children at the foundation’s kindergarten.

The Kreisau Ukraine Aid was made possible largely thanks to numerous private donations from Poland, Germany, and other European countries. Without this impressive support, the Kreisau Ukraine Aid would not have been possible!

Educational projects and strengthening of Ukrainian civil society

In January 2025, the last refugees from Ukraine left Krzyżowa. Some returned to Ukraine, while many have built new lives in the region. But support for Ukraine continues: In Krzyżowa, targeted educational and exchange projects are being organized for young Ukrainians. They provide a space for recovery from the horrors of war and for meeting peers from other countries. In addition, programmes are being developed for teachers, trainers, and young leaders to strengthen Ukrainian civil society and support the country’s reconstruction.

Russia’s war against Ukraine is still ongoing. Kreisau/Krzyżowa wishes to continue supporting Ukrainians. For this, we need your help!
