During World War II, this former residence of Helmuth James and Freya von Moltke served as the secret meeting place for members of the Kreisau Circle, a resistance group against National Socialism.<br>Today, the memorial at the House on the Hill allows young people from across Europe to engage with the significance of resistance and civil courage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fvms.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20190927-dsc018571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4570\" style=\"object-fit:contain\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fvms.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20190927-dsc018571.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.fvms.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20190927-dsc018571-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fvms.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20190927-dsc018571-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The historic House on the Hill brings the story of the Kreisau Circle to life in a unique way.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From 2023 to 2026, the historic Berghaus is undergoing extensive renovations<\/strong>. The first phase of the project \u2014 drying out the foundations and renewing the roof and facade insulation \u2014 was successfully completed by the end of 2023. Renovation of the interior spaces began in 2024 and will be completed in 2025. Currently, the memorial and educational areas, as well as the surrounding garden, are being redesigned as part of the final phase. The reopening of the Berghaus will take place in the summer of 2026, underscoring the message of peace that this historic site represents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The major challenge for Kreisau is securing the necessary funding.
